How do I program a Cisco Linksys EA6500 router?

1. Temporarily disable any Firewall on your Windows 7 computer. Refer to this link for the instructions:

2. Unplug the router from the modem.

3. Just power on the router. Do not connect it yet to the modem.

4. While the router is powered on, kindly reset it.

a. Locate the Reset button at the back or bottom of your router. Using a pen or a paper clip, press and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds.

b. Unplug the router from the power outlet for 30 seconds. Plug it back and wait for the power LED to be solid.
You should feel a little ‘click’ upon inserting the paperclip…and once you do, should continue to hold it until you see the Cisco logo flash which usually will take 10 to 15 seconds. If they slip, the procedure must be repeated.

5. Directly connect your Windows 7 computer to the numbered port of the router. Still do not connect the router and computer to the modem yet.

6. While wired to the router, access myrouter.local.

7. Enter admin for the router password.

8. You should get the Linksys Smart Wifi Tool.

9. Go to Wireless to configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on Edit for 2.4Ghz wireless settings and 5Ghz wireless settings.

b. Make sure to personalize both SSIDs.

c. Set the same Security Mode and Passphrase.

d. For 2.4Ghz, set the Channel Width to 20Mhz only and set the Channel to 1. For 5Ghz, set the Channel Width to 40Mhz only and set the Channel to Auto.

e. Click Apply to save the setings.

10. Go to Connectivity, Internet Settings. Put a check mark on the Enabled box for Mac Address Clone.

11. Click on Clone my PC's Mac. Click Apply to save the settings.

12. You may also set the other settings you have set before.

13. Once set, follow these steps to reconnect the router:

a. From the Internet port of the router, connect it to the Ethernet port of the modem.
(Make sure nothing else is connected to the modem aside from the router).

b. You may hardwire your wired computers to any of the numbered ports on the router.

14. If you don't get Internet connection yet, do a proper power cycle.
For the proper power cycle procedure, follow these steps:

a. Shut down the computers.

b. Unplug the power cable of the router, followed by the modem.

c. Wait for one minute.

d. Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for the lights to stop blinking. Then plug in the router's power cable.

e. Finally, start up the computers and test your Internet connection.
Note: Please make sure that the lights on the modem are stable before you power the router on.
